For the mother
Bleeding after birth is heavy for days. Hospital stock runs out; your own are softer.
Buttons or a zip in front make feeding and check-ups easier than a pullover nightie.
Drop-cup bras for the first feeds; buy a size up from your late-pregnancy size.
High waist sits above a C-section cut; disposable ones can be thrown away after the heavy days.
The first week of feeding is sore for most mothers. A lanolin-based balm is the usual recommendation.
You won't want to bend to fasten anything. Bathroom-safe soles matter on hospital floors.
Drinking lying down during feeds is easier with a straw.

Questions parents ask
When should the hospital bag be packed?
By 35–36 weeks. Keep it by the door or in the car from 36 weeks, with the document folder on top.
How many days should I pack for?
Two to three days for a normal delivery and four to five for a C-section. Pack for the longer stay if you're not sure; extra clothes are easy to carry home.
Does the hospital provide anything?
Most provide the basics for the mother during the stay, but ask at your booking visit. Baby clothes, diapers, wipes and maternity pads are usually expected from the family in India.
